Historian And Writer 1861-1938

Bharatacharaya Chintaman Vinayak Vaidya

A Genius motivator, source of encouragement, and inspiration to breathe life into the Reality of Past History,

 my roots, to my great-great grandfather, popularly known in Historians' lists of Indian Writers as

 Chintaman Vinayak Vaidya. His Precious work as a writer is even popular today all over the world as study material for the history of Indian culture.  

 Chintaman Vinayak Vaidya alias Nanasaheb (C.V.Vaidya) pen name, born in Chitpavan Brahmin family on 18 October 1861– 20 April 1938  in Kalyan, Thane District Maharashtra- India .  

 (During the Bombay Presidency-British Raj, the Kalyan city was called the city Kallian, Cullian, or Calliannee).

During his career, he was honored with many titles like  Rao Bahadur,

Vice Chancellor,  Bharatacharya, etc. 

He was a Scholar receiving high ranks in this early education, ranked 1st in his Matricular Exam at Elphiston High School (Mumbai), and Ranked 1st at Elphiston College in B.A. with an Edinburg fellowship. Also, was awarded with "Arnold Fellowship" & Elise Prize for the English Language.

He was awarded with "Chancellors Medal" in 1882 for Ranking 1st in the MA Exam (Mathematics only).

He was interested in continuing his studies, so he joined LLB(law) and did a part-time job as a superintendent and librarian Appointed by Principal Woodsworth. He completed his LLB in 1884 by receiving an award in Hindu Law (Arnold Scholarship).

During his lifetime, he studied  Extensively both Indian and Western Philosophy, Literature And Religion.

Later in his life, he learned Astrology,  Vedant Philosophy, and Hindustani Music, and gained interest in learning musical instruments Sitar & tabla from his famous personality in Gwalior & Ujjain.

Starting his career as a Lawyer in Thane court for 2 years of Service.

Joined Government service as a Munsiff in Shiroli, at Kholapur in 1885. Later started his legal Practice in June 1887 as a session Judge in Ujjain for 8 years.

In 1895, he worked as a Judicial Secretary.to His Highness the Maharaja of Gwalior.

They in Appointed as Chief Justice of Gwalior in 1895, and continued for 9years in the same position.

The British Government Conferred to Him the title Of "Rao Bhadur".

Due to his illness and family reasons, he decided to resign from his job in 1905 and moved to his hometown in Kalyan. 

During this time he started his writing career in 1905 till 1933, almost for 27 years. 

  

 Popularly Known in historians' list of  Indian writers as C.V. Vaidya (Chintaman Vinakay Vaidya),

 His precious works are even popular today all over the world as study material to go down into 

the History of Indian Culture.

Pānipatachā Shewaṭacha Saṅgrām (1924) - a work of fiction based on the third battle of Panipat.


During his career, he chaired many events 

In 1906-chaired as President of Grantha Samalan in Thane, Maharastra

 In 1908, he was elected as the President of the Maharastra Sahitya Sammelan at Poona

 In 1909 as President of The Annual Conference of the Mumbai Grantha Sangrahalaya held at Bombay
